Anthony’s Journey

At the age of 20, Anthony Arington was unexpectedly diagnosed with a cardiomyopathy. This life change was adequately managed until the condition worsened in 2011 requiring an LVAD as a bridge to transplant. Dailey activity was slowed considerably as the diagnosis progressed.

In 2012, Anthony was fortunate enough to receive a second chance at life with a successful heart transplant at Barnes Hospital. Twelve months later and a new lease on life led to the discovery of the MR340 – a three-day, 340 mile kayak adventure from Kansas City to Saint Charles. This was a way to test both what the body had left and what the new heart had to offer.

Last year Anthony used the marathon to raise nearly $6000.00 for the Casey’s Place Apartment. Beginning the morning of August 7th Anthony will once again navigate the Missouri River in the world’s longest non-stop kayaking event the MR340 from Kansas City to Saint Charles to raise funds and awareness for the Casey’s Place Apartments and The Heart Transplant Association of Saint Louis. This year’s goal is $15,000 to be split evenly between the two non profit charities.

The Casey’s Place Apartments provide lodging for out-of-town pre- and post-transplant patient families who journey to Saint Louis for treatment the Heart Transplant Association of STL provides essential funds, mentoring and support for the heart failure community.

These apartments provide lodging for out-of-town pre- and post-transplant patient families who journey to Saint Louis for treatment. Anthony’s goal is to raise at least $12,500 which would provide the furnishings and one year’s rent for a new apartment.
